ABOUT THE FINNERTY

Before The Finnerty was an agency, it was a shared perspective shaped by storytelling, culture, and curiosity.

We grew up in a home where narrative mattered. Our mom was a journalist, teaching us early that words shape perception and that the way something is told influences how it is understood. Our dad was music-obsessed and endlessly curious about the world, filling our lives with different sounds, different cities, and different cultures. Travel was never just travel - it was exposure, atmosphere, and perspective. Around us were conversations about food, art, advertising, and experience. Creativity was not a hobby; it was a lens.

We were the kids taking too many photos, collecting cameras, saving magazine clippings, documenting road trips, paying attention to album covers and billboards, noticing how certain restaurants felt different from others. Long before we worked in marketing, we were studying it: through culture, through media, through lived experience.

In 2015, Mikayla moved to London to pursue Media Studies and the public interest at Western University, graduating with distinction and earning a writing certificate alongside her degree. After working in marketing within a Toronto-based technology start-up and later at a media agency in London, she returned to Western to complete a Master of Arts in Media Studies. Her research examined news media coverage of Chemical Valley and the Aamjiwnaang First Nation, exploring how media framing influences public understanding and policy narratives. Her work was recognized with a prestigious SSHRC grant, an experience that solidified her belief that storytelling carries power, and that perception is never accidental.

Maddie attended the University of Windsor, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Media, and Film with a minor in Business. Her academic excellence was recognized with the Governor General’s Award of Canada. Maddie’s education bridged creative media literacy with business structure, a balance that now defines how she translates high-level brand direction into clear, scalable execution.

As our careers evolved - across agencies, in-house brand roles, campaign development, digital strategy, print, and large-scale advertising — that early curiosity matured into structure. We saw how enterprise brands think in ecosystems. How billboards, social campaigns, email, web, and physical spaces are meant to work together. How marketing, when built correctly, is infrastructure - not decoration.

In September 2024, after years of freelancing and working within established marketing systems, we formally launched The Finnerty. We didn’t want to only advise from a distance. We wanted to be hands-on. Creative. Deeply involved from strategy through execution. We wanted to bring enterprise-level thinking to growth-driven brands ready to operate at the next level.

Now in 2026, as a team of three, we’re known for strong visual direction, creative campaign thinking, and holistic marketing that treats every touchpoint as connected. With Maddie based in Windsor and Mikayla in London, we span communities while thinking beyond them = building brands that feel rooted locally but positioned to scale regionally and nationally.

We believe marketing should be built like a brand, not a series of tasks. Brand before tactics. Aesthetic as strategy. Systems that create momentum. Campaigns that reinforce positioning. Execution that supports growth.

We care about the details. We care about structure. We care about results. We want to see perception shift. We want to see brands scale with confidence and clarity.

This is what brought us here. And it’s what continues to shape how we build.

IT’S PERSONAL TO US.

We don’t see marketing as output - we see it as influence. The way a brand shows up shapes how it’s understood, valued, and trusted.

Because of our backgrounds in media, storytelling, and culture, we approach every project with a deep awareness that perception is powerful - and never accidental.
